Ingredients

For the filling:

  • 2 Granny Smith Apples
  • 1 Red Apple
  • 1/4 TSP Cinnamon powder
  • Cloves powder one pinch
  • 3 TBSP Brown sugar

For the pies:

  • 1 packet Pastry dough of any good brand
  • All-purpose flour for dusting, as needed
  • Egg 1 for egg wash

Instructions

  • Wash the apples. Peel, core and dice into small cubes.
  • Combine all stuffing ingredients with apple cubes, (like brown sugar, cinnamon powder, cloves powder) in a medium-size cooking pot and stew the apples over low heat. Cover and cook until soft.
  • Preheat the baking oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Whisk together until combined and the mixture has become thick. Make sure no moisture/juice is left.
  • Lay the pastry out and flatten with a rolling pin so that it is about ¼-inch (6cm) thick throughout. (by using the best rolling pins for baking, you will achieve the perfect sheets for your homemade dough)
  • Cut the pastry sheets into squares or rectangles.
  • Spoon apple mixture onto one side of each square and turn the empty side over the filling so that it covers. Seal the edges. With the help of a fork, press edges.
  • Cut several small slits on top of each to allow steam to escape.
  • Brush the pies with a beaten egg. (or egg white only)
  • Bake 15 to 20 minutes or until light golden brown. Serve warm or cool. Enjoy!

Notes

~ Feel free to use any type of apple you’d like in this recipe. Granny Smith, Gala, Honeycrisps, etc.
~ If you are using any other apples instead of granny smith, then add 1 TBSP of lemon juice for the same sweet & sour taste.
~ For a special touch, brush water or egg white over tops of unbaked pockets and sprinkle lightly with cinnamon-sugar. Bake as directed.
